This is the fifth work in the series ‘Songlines’, in which Griet received a song with 9 lines of text and 9 symbols.
Into the Heart of it all is a powerful work of art that impressively combines the images of an African woman and a lion. The figures are both shown in profile and are intertwined in a unique way. This suggests a sense of unity between the two. Two become one.
Against a dark background, the warm, vibrant colours stand out, with red, orange, yellow, and white dominating. In some places, the colours seem to drip downwards, which enhances the emotional intensity of the work.
The lion, a symbol of strength and kingship, reflects the inner strength of the woman and reinforces the feeling of connection.
The dramatic composition and rich use of colour create intimacy between the viewer and the work. The viewer is, as it were, drawn into the work. The warmth and love for life are clearly palpable.
