The cow came to me as a primal symbol for the Great Mother who watches over us all. Her crescent-shaped horns refer to fertility and the cycles of the moon. The moonlight shines through the horns and illuminates the work. In Sumerian mythology, the cow was already considered a sacred animal, closely associated with mother goddesses who embodied fertility, care and cosmic order. This symbolism is clearly evident in the worship of goddesses such as Ninsun, Inanna, Ninlil and Nineigara. They saw the light of the moon reflected in the milk and drank it to receive the heavenly energy.
In shamanic and Indian tradition, the cow is always sacred. It represents abundance, the fulfilment of all hunger, both physical and spiritual. The cow teaches us the path of giving and receiving with an open heart and encourages us to be connected to both our source and the world around us.
